All posted burn times are approximated and depend on drafts in the area the candles burn in, as well as how long the wick is. Too long of a wick and the candle will burn too quickly and the flame will get too long and can cause fires. The recommended wick length is approximately 1/4. " When the candle is burning in an area where there is a draft, it will drip and pool. This is true with all candles.
All pillars are designed to burn for a long periods at a time. When you burn the candle for the first time, please burn an hour for every inch in width. So, if you have purchased a 3 inch wide candle, you need to burn the candle for 3 hours the first time. This is critical! It will help to prevent your candle from tunneling. After that, you can burn any length of time. Eventually, you will need to burn the candle for 3 hours to use up all the wax and get full value for your candle.
While making the candles I have worked really hard to match the wick to the candle size. So "hugging the wick" should not be necessary. When burning square pillars, to ensure all the wax is used, the corners will have to be bent or "hugged" in as needed. Votive candles must be burnt in a container and can be burnt any length of time.
"Hugging" is a term used to describe gently pushing soft wax into the wax pool to increase the wax burned.
To quote a customer on the votive candles, "Only one problem with your candles! They last too long. My husband said we would go to bed when the candle was finished. The candle outlasted us."
